Loved seeing you step out on the competition floor for the first time last month! Your progress over the last 6 months has been incredible. Keep up the great work!
What’s your story?
I have one child his name is Oscar. On the 9th of March he will be 10 years old. My two step kids are 19 and 17. I am in the building trades and I am a union construction worker. I do most of my work right here in Cleveland and surrounding cities. When I'm not working I love to spend time with my family. Especially during football season,It's my son's favorite sport to play.
How long have you been training with us?
I have been training with Unbroken Athletic for about 6 months.
Why did you start?
I started because I wasn't getting anything out of going to a conventional gym anymore .I didn't enjoy it anymore like I use to . Maybe I wasn't 100% committed like I was before. Or maybe I wasn't being honest with myself. I needed something new.
What was the biggest thing that scared you about this type of training? How did you overcome that?
The biggest thing that worried me about starting Crossfit was simply the unknown. I had no idea what it was or even if I could even do it.I would drive by the gym and see people doing all sorts of lifting, running, climbing ropes, etc. I thought one day I'd like to see what it was all about.
What has been your proudest achievement so far?
Opening up,taking chances and trying new things.
What result did you gain from training here that you did not expect?
Friendships and self confidence
You just recently completed your first CrossFit competition. Can you tell us about your experience? Will you do another?
In September 2020 around the time I joined Unbroken Athletic I went to see a competition that people were in from our gym. It was exciting and was my first time experiencing what Crossfit was. I came, watched, cheered, and congratulated everyone. Many people insisted that it would be great to see me out there competing with them next time. I quietly laughed and thought to myself, yea maybe one day. When this most recent competition was announced a friend of mine asked if I was competing? I said I'd definitely be there on the sideline again cheering them on. I told her I'd be too nervous. She assured me that there was nothing to be nervous about and that it was just for fun. I thought about what she had said, and she was absolutely right. I then told her that I was in! I had so much fun,I didn't do too bad either, being my first ever competition. I definitely plan on doing more in the near future..I would encourage anyone who is having doubts like I did to just try one.You don't have to be a professional athlete. I'm sure you will be wanting to do more like me!
What's your favorite movement?
What's your least favorite movement?
The snatch is my least favorite movement, but I am determined at getting better at this and making it on of my favorites.
What are you working towards now?
Progressing, learning more about Crossfit, getting stronger, more competitions, and making new friends.
Why do you keep coming back?
It's challenging to me and I can't see myself getting tired of it. I don't think it will ever get old. I look forward to class every day.
