Each month Unbroken Athletic recognizes one athlete in the group that stands out as demonstrating grit, effort, positive attitude and embodies the spirit of Unbroken Athletic. What’s your story?

I'm a full-time working mom with 2 boys: 16 year old Jack and 15 month old Max - (I know I'm crazy for starting all over again). I've always been physically active, working out in different capacities but usually got bored after a few months. Since joining Crossfit at Unbroken Athletic I truly have a new outlook on working out and find myself continually challenged, and anything but BORED.

How long have you been training with us?

Over 3 years now - and will be continuing on for years to come


Why did you start?

I was looking for a new challenge to keep me motivated in my fitness journey. I had been going to Orange Theory for a few months and felt like I was in great cardio shape but really didn't enjoy running on the treadmill day after day and I wasn't seeing a significant change in my body composition. 

 

What was the biggest thing that scared you about this type of training? How did you overcome that?

I was a little intimidated by all the different Olympic lifts that I had never really done before and being able to complete the high intensity workouts. We receive such amazing training at Unbroken that little by little I started feeling more comfortable in most lifts and was able to start increasing the weights which felt amazing. There is also such an incredible group of members that are so encouraging during the tough workouts.


What has been your proudest achievement so far?

More so than the increase in strength, I would say I'm so proud that I was able to continue working out until 2 days before delivery, I was able to get back in quickly and that my body adjusted back faster than I expected. I truly do not believe that would have been possible if I was doing any other type of workout.

What result did you gain from training here that you did not expect?

A much better appreciation for what my body is capable of doing and the ability to push through even the toughest of days. I've love that I've also stopped worrying about how much I weigh but more about how I feel and what I can accomplish. The best compliments in the last year have been when people say I look "FIT"!

What's your favorite movement? 

Power Cleans and Pull Ups

What's your least favorite movement? 

Definitely Overhead Squats

What are you working towards now?

Continuing to improve my cardio, butterfly pull-ups, a muscle up one day?

Why do you keep coming back?

In addition to loving that there is always a new challenge ahead (heavier weight, new skill, RX'ing a workout, etc.) I specifically keep coming back to Unbroken because of the people - that includes coaching and members. Many of my closest friendships have been formed here. I love the smaller gym feel and that we are all here to support one another and lift each other up!
