Each month Unbroken Athletic recognizes one athlete in the group that stands out as demonstrating grit, effort, positive attitude and embodies the spirit of Unbroken Athletic. Congratulations to Kyle Chandler for being nominated this month by his coaches here at Unbroken. Check out his story below to see why. Thank you for inspiring us Kyle! Keep up the great work!
What’s your story?
Born and raised Clevelander. Proud husband and father to three wonderful kids under five. Outside of work I enjoy Cleveland sports, woodworking and craft beer.
How long have you been training with us?
Why did you start?
I was reaching my mid thirties and was terribly overweight and out of shape. I kept a poor diet and rarely worked out. My biggest motivation though was my kids. It finally hit me that if I want to be a big part of their lives today and in the future I needed to get serious about my health.
What was the biggest thing that scared you about this type of training? How did you overcome that?
Weight lifting. The last time I touched a barbell was in high school. In the back of my head I was worried if I could do it at all or if I would hurt myself in the process. However, the coaches were there to guide me through the process! A huge shout out to Jeremie and AJ for helping me out in the AM classes!
What has been your proudest achievement so far?
I have officially dropped 55 pounds! In the gym, I'm excited to see my endurance improvement with WODs but still have a long way to go!
What result did you gain from training here that you did not expect?
Actually finding a passion for working out. I've never had that previously in my life. Now even on my off days I am still getting in a bike ride or a run - I'm hooked!
What's your favorite movement? Power cleans
What's your least favorite movement? Wall balls
What are you working towards now?
Hopefully participating in Murph come 2021!
Why do you keep coming back?
