Don’t quit in the valley
You can quit anytime you want, just make sure you don’t make that decision in a valley. I’m sure you know this already, but life is full of ups and down, valleys and mountain tops. We head into life, gym goals and new endeavors knowing we will face challenges. While it’s so tempting and most times logical to throw in the towel when things get tough, I’m challenging you to make the decision now to never quit when you’re in the valley. If you are going to go out, do it on your terms from the mountain top. There are times when you will have to quit or change directions on goals and you should, but do that with unclouded judgment of the low points of the journey. The valley is a weird place, it can make all decisions that lessen the pain of the moment seem like the right ones. Never once in my life, however, has running away from problems instead of into them actually helped anything. So in the valley you have a choice to make, figure out a way to get through it, become a problem solver or turn back the other way to the safety of your last plateau. I get it, it’s comfortable over there, it’s certain, it’s safe. But that’s not what life is about. You were created to be a problem solver, to grow and to change. Otherwise you’ll always be in the same spot, always be the same person, always have the same problems. Yuck. At some point you have to make the commitment that you won’t quit when you’re getting beat up, instead you’ll rise to the challenge then when you’re standing on the top of the mountain you can choose to go a different direction like a boss.
