How We’ve Lost Our Tribal Connection – And Why it Hurts Us As A Society

I am going to be super lame and start this with a definition of tribe.

Webster’s definition:

tribe (noun)

\ˈtrīb  \

Definition of tribe

1: a social group comprising numerous families, clans, or generations together with slaves, dependents, or adopted strangers

2 : a group of persons having a common character, occupation, or interest

Last night we had our annual Christmas party. We do this every year to celebrate our tribe of adopted strangers. I started thinking and was shocked on how many people have walked through the doors of Unbroken Athletic over the last two years. We have seen people come and sadly we have also seen people go. Many of those people have achieved some really amazing health goals and some have lost tons of weight. However, as I was watching the group that was the furthest thing from my mind. What I realized was something you cannot get from a big box gym or DVD workout set. Sure if you clean up your eating and follow a workout plan you can get really awesome results. But the thing that I noticed last night was a community that was forged through fitness.

We live in an age of profile pictures and talk to text. We have relied on digital media to voice concerns, write intriguing text and post about our life. We do this all in order to get likes, hearts and views from people we have not seen or physically talked to in years. We are all searching for social fulfillment on a platform that will never full fill that need.

But there is hope….

At Unbroken we have created an environment that fosters this very basic human need to interact. The collective tribe of people that we have the pleasure of coaching is what makes Unbroken what it is. They are the very glue that makes this facility possible.

Find your tribe and reconnect.
