Each year at the CrossFit Games, they honor someone with the Spirit of the Games award. This honor goes to the ‘athlete who embodies the spirit of the sport.’ Each week during Saturday Morning Showdown, Unbroken Athletic will recognize a member it feels represented the Spirit of the Games. This week’s honor goes to …. Avery Fennell. She absolutely crushed it during the Saturday Showdown, as a 12 year old competing with the 14/15 teen division weights, she finished with 21+3 reps. Then she stayed for the rest of the day cheering and judging for other members as they went through the workout. Avery has been training at Unbroken Athletic for a little over 5 months, she gets up before school to come workout at 5:30am and rarely misses Saturday morning training sessions. She is always positive and eager to learn. Her hard work and commitment to improving as an athlete inside and outside the gym is inspiring. She also just made the 7th grade OFMS conference basketball team.
“How do you not give a spirit award to a kid who gets out of bed on Saturday morning to come to the gym, and crush a workout intended for older kids with heavy weights, and the sticks around to help judge for 2 1/2 hours!?!?! Avery embodied the spirit of the open in tackling a challenging WOD head on, and then stuck around to judge and cheer on the community! She hasn’t been with us long, but it’s obvious she loves CrossFit and she’s awesome to have in a class.” Unbroken coach AJ Macey said.
Congratulations Avery! We are proud of you and can’t wait to see where you take this journey!
