I remember when personal records (PR) came with ease. Every week was a new PR with little effort on my part. Then something happened, they stopped coming. So I started to dial in my training, tracked my workouts, added accessory work and tested different starting positions in my snatch and clean… AND… Still nothing changed! Days turned into weeks. Weeks turned into months. Then six months later I finally got a 5lb PR.
The point is that when you start everything is about your physical ability. Some have more success in the beginning because they are stronger overall, which gives them a physical advantage over others. While this does have its advantages it can prolong a lifters proficiency if the strength is not applied correctly. Regardless of how strong you are, or how weak, your technical abilities at higher weight will trump your strength 99% of the time. The 1% is pure luck or a triple scoop of pre workout.
